We subscribe to our local newspaper and currently receive it Thursday thru Sunday. Our subscription is due to expire very soon. The yearly rate to renew it is $118.50 for the year. I called the newspaper the other day and asked if there were any promotions that would lower my rate. The customer service representative was not very helpful and said that there was no promotion. My only option for lowering the cost was to only get the Sunday paper. The cost of that is $91 for the year. So, I decided that I would do that and wrote out a check for that amount. Luckily, I didn't mail it yet because today I received a sales call from the newspaper and this time I was talking to a very helpful woman. She apologized that I was not satisfied with my previous inquiry and said that if I let my subscription run out then she can offer me a rate of $51.81 for a one year subscription of Sunday's newspaper! What a deal! I just saved my family $40 with no effort whatsoever.
So, the moral is - dig, dig, dig for the deals and don't take no for an answer.
